We're in!!

This is a very important moment ... The building inspector is filling out the paperwork for our "TOC" (temporary occupancy permit). We passed! As soon as he walked out the door I got out our inflatable air mattress and filled it up. That night we slept in the new house for the first time. Bliss! The next few days we cleaned and scrubbed our rental house top to bottom and handed the keys over to the rightful owner.

An unexpected knock on the door revealed a lady bearing flowers ... Chris' sister Lisa had wired a local florist who executed this gloriously exuberant array of blossoms for us. We were very touched.

Evan has been installing the kitchen tiles and grouting them ... they are still awaiting the final sealing ... and then the floor will be ready for daily living.

Next up was the problem of how to get all our appliances up from the basement. For some reason they are all massively heavy. Luckily Lars was here with one of his open flat trailers which worked just fine as Evan inched his truck uphill over all the deep ruts of the driveway. Then professionals came and did the actual installing and setting up.

Now I can lay claim to my kitchen bit by bit. We will be plagued by daily doses of airborne building dust through for the next several months I suspect. I have to sit myself down and study all the manuals and learn how the appliances operate. As you can see, we have exactly one stool ... I have ordered five more via the internet and hope they arrive soon.

All the contents from the rental house has been stowed along a back wall in the workshop awaiting rediscovery. The wooden sticks in the trash can on the right is part of my big floor loom. The boards behind the ladder is the decking for one of our unfinished porches.

Back at work. Abbi is still sanding and oiling beans in the upper reaches of the peaked roof. The floor finish on the upper level is all totally done and beautiful but I am covering it all with "rosin" paper because (as the flooring man explained, if you only need to cover part of it for continued protection, it is best to cover all of it so the sun doesn't affect it unevenly as the sealant cures). Since we still have the master bedroom and master bath to finish there will be a lot of dirty business still happening on this level. Hence, the rose colored paper.
