Windows are TEDIOUS! It takes forever to prep each opening, then muscle the beasts into position, check that they are indeed level and plumb, nail in a million nails around the outside flanges to lock them in, then tape the outer edges with special weather stripping and make it stick using a heat gun because it is winter and the sun is not as generous with its warmth as it can be during other times of year. Thank goodness there exists such a thing as a forklift! I think the lift is Chris' new best friend. Windows changes the feel of the inside spaces ... we were so used to open holes that allowed for that excellent air circulation (ideal in the tropics).
Chris and Evan were pretty excited to finally reach the uppermost windows in the "great room" and humored me by smiling nicely for the camera. That gymnastic pose you see Chris performing was offered such that I might have a "solöga" (sun eye) on the east wall of my studio. My loom will be on the other side of it someday soon.
Here you see something new that wasn't there before ... a chimney for the Tulikivi stove. The part that penetrates the roof needed to be installed such that the roofer can do his thing around it. It is our understanding that the soapstones for the stove have arrived from Finland and the dealer will come back and assemble (build) the stove on site in January. Then we can have HEAT when we work inside! I can't quite imagine what that will be like.
Evan sweetly built us a temporary front door (on his own initiative) just to keep the howling winds out. I was thrilled and promptly went to Walmart and blew $3 on this lovely wreath for the holidays. Our neighbor went off to Texas for a few days and entrusted the care of his two dogs to us ... they took me for daily walks and we had a great time together. The little one is Precious (a girl) and the big one is Bandit (a boy). The dogs reminded me how much I pine for a dog of our own ... but that has to wait until we move into the house.
