The bathtub has arrived!

The big action this week was the building of the front porch and cement apron for the entry steps. Lars was the man in charge because he knows how to do these things really well. There was a lot of digging and leveling and checking everything twice or more. At one point he was whacking away with a pick ax to open the still frozen solid ground to prepare the bed for the cement pour when he chanced to hit a rock that exploded and sent a chunk up in his face ... a bloody lip and apparent cracks in the two front teeth sent him off to the dentist for an emergency x-ray ... thank goodness the cracks only penetrated the enamel, not the core of the teeth. He was back on the job in short order.

So now we have the start of a really nice and inviting front entry. The plan is to have one step up made of a steel grid such that when you stomp your feet, snow and mud can just fall off through the grid holes and not follow you into the mud room. Never mind that no shoes will be allowed in the house anyway.

All our major appliances arrived this week and were stowed in the basement ... it's getting pretty crowded down there. I am absolutely over the moon over the beautiful Victoria & Albert bathtub which will grace the master bath. Finally I will get to indulge in a real bath ... my inspiration comes from recollections of bathing in sulfur scented water in a hotel in Iceland long ago and also indulging in bubbles at my cousin Inger's place in Stockholm. Ahhh ......
