We had a visit from our long time friend Bob Happ since the last post. Bob has been helping Chris build additions onto his shop back in Pennsylvania since the early days ... not to mention passing on lots of nickel knowledge. His visit made Chris really happy.
As the winter months came and went, we have had a great carnage of fly corpses on our window sills in the house. It's a mystery to me where they are coming from ... we never see them flying around, and no windows or doors were gaping open for any stretch of time. Chris's theory is that eggs were laid in the cracks of the timbers when they were in storage outside prior to assembly. They have all been vacuumed up now, but I just had to document their demise first.
The garage is dragging on forever it seems. Those instant wall SIPs were just the start. A full super strong inner stud structure also had to be built ... and Lars is super vigilant about every detail—if it isn't perfect, then it is tweaked until perfection is reached. Here's a couple of father son shots of Chris and Lars working high up.
I think the stud walls are now done ... with extra support enforcements to receive the roof trusses. The building inspector should have nothing to complain about.
So now we have moved on to the truss building phase. We need three of these handcrafted custom trusses. Straight grained douglas fir is the wood of choice, but I think the longest member is some sort of engineered super strong wood.
