Salida was all about biking a few days ago when the USA Pro Cycling Challenge race started in our fair city. We hiked up through the back woods of our property and parked ourselves with a few friends just over the fence beyond our backyard in Weldon Creek to catch the flash of the tour passing by. There were helicopters circling above and police escorts fore and aft. It was a very big deal. Those poor riders had a whole slew of Colorado mountain passes ahead of them over five or six days ... I think the last leg is actually today.
The anticipation was great and it really was a THRILL to see them all wizzing by!
Back to work ... the stucco crew arrived and started preparing for their work. Black tar paper needed to be wrapped around the entire workshop building and then chicken wire attached with staples. I was concerned about the depth of those staples until I chanced upon a pile of them and saw first hand that they were indeed quite seriously deep staples. No more worries about that.
The oak beams need to be oiled outside and inside so we are getting to that ... this is something I can actually help with at lower elevations. The oil has such a nice effect on the oak, it just brings it alive.
Inside, the master bedroom fireplace and three chimneys needed to have some framing structure surround which we had puzzled over for a while and finally Joe attacked the bear and figured it out one board at a time. Closets will be built on either side of this structure. Meanwhile, Chris has started spackling downstairs in prep for the start of window and door trim work.
