Chris' brother John joined us this week much to our delight ... and, of course, we put him right to work. He and I had trash detail the greater part of a day because we finally had an enormous dumpster delivered to the job site. Halleluja! Spic and span is really nice!
It took us three extremely long days to get the plywood (composite board) sheets glued and nailed on. Our neighbor Dom donated the full three days to our efforts ... boy, do we owe him! Brother John pitched in as well when he wasn't off fishing. There is three layers of sheeting where hardwood floors will be and one layer where there will be tile. There never was such a sturdy floor base in the annals of home building ... I'm pretty sure.
On the morning of the fourth day the job is mostly done and we had the help of Rich and Donald to fill in dirt around the base of the house and tamp it down thoroughly. Phew!
Later in the day we rested on our laurels on the "sun room" cement slab and kept a lookout for the first of two trucks coming with our house timbers. Here you see the first truck coming 'round the bend ... boy, oh boy, were we excited! We had arranged for a big forklift to unload the timbers at the base of our driveway for the truck was too long to navigate through the bends up to the job site.
A wistful and exhausted Chris watches the action in the late afternoon sun ... in disbelief that we have actually gotten this far. Tomorrow morning the other truck comes with the rest of the timbers plus a crew to assemble the structure.
