While waiting for the cement truck (yellow floor in background) the guys decided to get into some WOOD. They were really itching to get their hands on some wood after months of cement and basement level stuff! So ... first thing was to make the support beam that holds up the floor joists of the main level. It consists of four pieces of wood that needed to be laminated together with lots of glue and screws. The scaffolding came in handy ... it was something we dragged with us from Pennsylvania ... funny thing is that it had already been to Colorado before ... years ago we loaned it to my parents when they needed it to build their house in Colorado.
That done, Chris, Lars and Evan got right to the installation of the sill plates (the pieces of wood that sit on the cement walls that the rest of the house attaches to). That is probably a gross simplification, so forgive my lack of finesse in my description. Isn't it a beautiful day?
Nothing is straightforward and the 45 degree angle in the floor design caused some discussion of how to handle the cuts (I guess). All three boys are standing casually as can be up on that wall as if there wasn't just a short miss-step to great bodily harm both fore and aft as I held my breath to take a picture of their three way tete-a-tete ... thankfully they got down to refer to the drawings.
