Evan has his own woodworking shop in the basement with electric lights (!) and power. He has been planing millions of aspen boards which makes copious amounts of wood shavings so he designed and built an auxiliary collection system for the debris. Necessity is the mother of invention, they say. On Sunday Evan had a gig at Fritz's restaurant so we went to support him and eat some wicked good tapas.
The timber crew who built our house skeleton came back to finish off an exterior porch support structure. Jay lengthened the main bearing timber and did an exquisite job notching and fitting together two pieces into one. Meanwhile, the bottoms of the uprights were grooved to fit the welded steel post bases that sit between the cement pillars (underground) and the oak posts. The finished porch will be awesome!
We attached a whole series of 4" x 4" stringers on the garage so there would be something to attach the roof to.
Finally! The SIPs were attached today with the help of the timber frame crew (3) ... it took all six (Chris, Lars & Evan plus the 3) working furiously all day (plus one crane operator). The weather forecast for tonight is for snow and sleety rain, so the whole new roof was draped in tarps.
