The saga of the basement floor continues ... and boy, oh boy, is it slow and tedious! The leveling of the gravel took forever. Next is a sheet of thick plastic (for radon entrapment), then the blue insulation panels ...
... after which comes the lovely red radiant heating tubes. I just love the pattern that innocently appeared on the canvas of the floor. It seems a shame to cover it all up.
Not finished yet ... Lars is cutting rebar which had to be criss crossed everywhere for strength and ties with cute little wiggly twist'ems at every intersection. Mind numbing work. Then the whole meshwork of rebar was lifted off the red tubes with little "chairs" so it would sit midway in the concrete. That's it! Now we are ready for the first of several pours in the basement. (it is too big to do in one pour)
Chris and Lars took some time off to fly a kite and work up a shopping list for the next phase which will include wood. We can hardly wait to smell the lovely aroma of freshly sawn wood waft into our nostrils.
The huge slab is poured and smoothed out ... and Chris vigilantly squirts water over it every couple of hours so it gets off to a good start in the 30 year curing process. (He read somewhere that cement continues to cure that long!)
