Much to our delight, Jerry Morici, a good friend from back east, surprised us with a visit this week. He said he just had to come check out what we were up to out here in the wilds of Colorado. Jerry has driven on the Colorado Grand many times with us and enjoyed the legendary lunch stops in Salida just as much as we did all those times. He's a fellow car guy and we've known him a million years or so ... give or take. Here Chris and he are holding their breath as a piece of our roof SIP system is hoisted into place on the back side of the house.
This is a shot of the back (south) side of the house ... now there is a roof over the entire structure, even the itty bitty little window seat bump out in the guest room. Looks like a house ... don't you think?
It is time for us to start thinking about the outer coverings of the house and getting closed in for the winter. Chris' and my task this week has been to paint all four sides of all the boards that will be used to build up the fascia around the entire perimeter of the roof. It is a 12 inch board sandwiched with a 6 inch "shadow" board on top. You know how it is when you paint, you start out vowing to be very tidy and not get smudges all over yourself, but by the end of the day you are totally smudged up anyway ... so I am spotted with blue all over everything. The colors we have chosen for the home come from a beautiful old log house on the outskirts of Stockholm that we found in a book ... I took one look and said "Oh, yes" to myself and, thankfully, Chris agreed.
