Coming right along, this is what the south side of the house looks like this week ... note the addition of a covered porch there on the left side. It is what we refer to as the "private" porch with access through a door in the den. It has rained twice on the structure, so we are really looking forward to having a roof.
A fork lift is a very good thing to have on hand for these tall jobs. The SIPs are taking a long time to install. I am super pleased with the new porch which you see to better advantage in the right hand photo. We will also have an "open public" porch on the other side of the sun room, that one will be accessed through two doors, one from the dining room and another from the sun room.
Here is a view of our upstairs master bedroom (left) and swinging the camera to the left (right picture), a view of the great room's atrium space. It's pretty spectacular.
We were asked to play nyckelharpa at the last Salida Farmers Market of the season, of course we said yes and sawed away for a couple of hours. We caused quite a sensation because nobody had ever seen, much less heard, such an oddball contraption ever before. We felt secure in the knowledge that we are the very best nyckelharpa players in Salida (read the
only players in Salida!!), and it was wonderful to share our Swedish tunes with our new neighbors. We assured our listeners that our humble skills paled by comparison to our good friend from Sweden, Peter Puma Hedlund who is the master of them all, bar none. Maybe someday after our house is built we can lure him here to Salida and let the locals hear what the instrument should really sound like.
