Water and a visitor!

The Memorial Day weekend is history and we can get back to thinking about house building. Our first visitor from "back home" came by ... Ian Carpenter, who we've known for almost 30 years, formerly from the Philadelphia area, now living in New Mexico, stopped in for an overnight visit between gigs (he's teaches anti-terrorist driving techniques to those who need to know such things). He invited us to come visit and check out his freshly built new home in Abiquiu, NM ... turns out that is also where the artist Georgia O'Keeffe lived and worked; and not only that, it is also where the Monastery of Christ in the Desert is located. So there are three very good reasons to motor on down there to visit Ian.

The wooden forms were removed from the foundation today and I do think the cement shape is very becoming down there in our hole. Red chalk lines have been snapped as guides for the next task, which is to set the Nudura blocks which will form the walls of the basement. The blocks will be filled with concrete and left in place as insulation. One of the highlights of the day was seeing water, actual H2O, running in our portion of the Hoosier Ditch. Our neighbor, Tony, must have opened the gate in his horse pasture to let our allotment of the wet stuff find its way downstream. Truth be told, we had our doubts of ever seeing water in that ditch, but you can see it there in the picture.
